Health risks
Yellow Fever - Conditional (g1)
Yellow fever is NOT endemic, no risk. Only required when transiting from high-risk area (any transit duration). Not endemic. Only required when entering from high-risk area.

Basic vaccination against three serious infectious diseases.
Protects against liver inflammation via contaminated food or water.
Protects against liver inflammation via blood or sexual contact.
Especially important when visiting family or for extended stays.
Additional vaccinations
Recommended for extended stays or adventurous travel.
Strongly recommended due to presence of rabies.
Recommended for extended stays in rural areas.
Vaccination available for risk areas with dengue.
When to start vaccinating?
Plan your vaccinations ideally 6-8 weeks before departure. Some vaccinations require multiple doses for full protection. For yellow fever, you must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.

Practical travel information for Bali
Best time to travel
April to October is the dry season and most pleasant. November to March brings the most rainfall.
Malaria
There is no malaria risk on Bali itself. If you travel on to eastern Indonesia (for example Papua, Flores or the Lombok area), malaria prophylaxis may be needed.
Our advice in short
- Hepatitis A and an up-to-date DTP are the standard recommendations for Bali.
- We advise typhoid for touring trips, longer stays or frequent street food.
- Rabies matters on Bali: there are many dogs and monkeys. For longer stays, cycling, scooter travel or travelling with children we advise rabies vaccination.
- Dengue occurs; daytime mosquito protection is important, also in tourist areas.
Frequently asked questions
Is rabies vaccination really necessary for Bali?
It is not mandatory, but strongly advisable for longer stays, travelling with children or many outdoor activities. After a bite or scratch abroad, prompt medical care is hard to arrange; with a primary series the follow-up treatment is simpler.
How far in advance should I visit?
Preferably four to six weeks before departure. Even last minute we can almost always still provide useful advice and the most important vaccinations.
