About Indonesia

Health risks
Yellow Fever - Conditional (g1)
Yellow fever is NOT endemic, no risk. Only required when transiting from high-risk area (any transit duration). Not endemic. Only required when entering from high-risk area.
Malaria risk
High risk in West Papua and Sumba. Low risk in Bali, Java and Lombok. No risk in Jakarta.

When to start vaccinating?
Plan your vaccinations ideally 6-8 weeks before departure. Some vaccinations require multiple doses for full protection. For yellow fever, you must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.

Best time to travel
The dry season runs roughly from May to September. During the rainy season (November to March) the dengue risk is higher.
Malaria
There is hardly any malaria risk on Java and Bali. In Papua and parts of Sulawesi, Flores and Sumba prophylaxis is often needed - your itinerary determines the advice.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a rabies vaccination for Bali?
Bali is a rabies area. For short hotel stays vaccination is not always required, but we do advise it for scooter riders, longer stays, children or remote areas. Your practitioner will discuss this during the consultation.
Do I need antimalarials for Indonesia?
That depends entirely on your route. Bali and Java: usually not. Papua and parts of eastern Indonesia: usually yes. We assess this per destination following the Dutch LCR guidelines.
