Health risks
Yellow Fever - Conditional (g1)
Yellow fever is NOT endemic, no risk. Only required when transiting from high-risk area (any transit duration). Not endemic. Only required when entering from high-risk area.
Malaria risk
Malaria risk in Terai region <1500m. No risk in Kathmandu and high-altitude trekking routes.

When to start vaccinating?
Plan your vaccinations ideally 6-8 weeks before departure. Some vaccinations require multiple doses for full protection. For yellow fever, you must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.

Practical travel information for Nepal
Best time to travel
October and November offer the clearest trekking weather; March to May is also good. The monsoon runs from June to September.
Malaria
There is no malaria risk in Kathmandu or at altitude. In the lowlands (Terai, Chitwan) protection can be sensible, depending on season and route.
Our advice in short
- Hepatitis A, DTP and typhoid are standard; typhoid is particularly relevant here.
- We advise rabies for treks and longer stays: medical help is far away in the mountains.
- Altitude sickness is a key concern above 3,000 metres; plan a gradual ascent schedule.
- Be careful with water and food; use bottled water or a good filter.
