Health risks
Yellow Fever - Conditional (g1)
Yellow fever is NOT endemic, no risk. Only required when transiting from high-risk area (any transit duration). Not endemic. Only required when entering from high-risk area.

Basic vaccination against three serious infectious diseases.
Protects against liver inflammation via contaminated food or water.
Protects against liver inflammation via blood or sexual contact.
Especially important when visiting family or for extended stays.
Additional vaccinations
Strongly recommended for this destination.
Strongly recommended due to presence of rabies.
Recommended for extended stays in rural areas.
Vaccination available for risk areas with dengue.
When to start vaccinating?
Plan your vaccinations ideally 6-8 weeks before departure. Some vaccinations require multiple doses for full protection. For yellow fever, you must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.

Best time to travel
December to March for the south and west coasts, May to September for the east coast. The climate differs by region.
Malaria
Sri Lanka was declared malaria-free in 2016. Antimalarials are not needed, but mosquito protection remains important because of dengue.
Our advice in short
- Hepatitis A and DTP are the basic recommendations; typhoid for touring trips and longer stays.
- Dengue occurs year-round, peaking after the monsoon. Use repellent during the day.
- Rabies is present in dogs and monkeys; for longer stays or many outdoor activities we advise vaccination.
- A yellow fever certificate is only required when arriving from a yellow fever country.
