About Suriname

Yellow Fever - Recommended (G)
Yellow fever is endemic. Vaccination strongly recommended due to risk, but not required. Endemisch. Aanbevolen voor binnenland (hoog risico) en kustgebieden (laag risico).

When to start vaccinating?
Plan your vaccinations ideally 6-8 weeks before departure. Some vaccinations require multiple doses for full protection. For yellow fever, you must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.

Best time to travel
February to April and August to November are the drier periods.
Malaria
There is no malaria risk in Paramaribo and the coastal plain. For the interior (gold fields, border areas) prophylaxis or stand-by treatment may be needed.
Our advice in short
- Hepatitis A and DTP are standard; typhoid for stays in the interior.
- Yellow fever is advised and is mandatory when transiting from certain countries.
- For family visits and longer stays we also advise hepatitis B.
- Dengue occurs: use mosquito repellent during the day.

It is not mandatory for travellers from the Netherlands, but it is strongly advised. If you travel via a yellow fever country, a certificate may be required on arrival.
