Tanzania is a top destination for safari with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. The annual great migration is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena. Health risks
Yellow Fever - Recommended (G1)
Yellow fever is endemic. Vaccination recommended. Required when transiting from high-risk area (any transit duration). Endemic (low risk). Recommended for entire country. Required when transiting from high-risk area.

When to start vaccinating?
Plan your vaccinations ideally 6-8 weeks before departure. Some vaccinations require multiple doses for full protection. For yellow fever, you must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.

Practical travel information for Tanzania
Best time to travel
June to October is the dry season and ideal for safari. January and February suit Zanzibar and the calving season in the Serengeti.
Malaria
Malaria prophylaxis is advised throughout Tanzania, including Zanzibar. Above roughly 1,800 metres on Kilimanjaro the risk is negligible, but the journey to and from counts.

- Yellow fever is mandatory when arriving from a yellow fever country, including a layover of more than twelve hours.
- Hepatitis A, DTP and typhoid are standard; hepatitis B for longer stays.
- We advise rabies for camping safaris, longer stays and travelling with children.
- Take antimalarials as scheduled and use repellent consistently between dusk and dawn.
