Hajj & Umrah

When is Hajj? Dates and the Islamic calendar

Hajj falls each year in the month of Dhul Hijjah. Because the Islamic calendar follows the moon, the period shifts by roughly eleven days each year compared with the Gregorian calendar.

    Short answer

Hajj 2027 (1448) is expected from 14 to 19 May 2027, with Arafat on Saturday 15 May and Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May. Final dates depend on the official moon sighting in Saudi Arabia.

Hajj 2027 (Hadj 2027): the expected dates

The Hajj of 1448 AH falls in May 2027. According to the Umm al-Qura calendar the week looks as follows, subject to the official moon sighting by the Saudi committee:

    • 8 Dhul Hijjah, Friday 14 May 2027: Yawm at-Tarwiyah, in Ihram to Mina
    • 9 Dhul Hijjah, Saturday 15 May 2027: the day of Arafat, then the night in Muzdalifah
    • 10 Dhul Hijjah, Sunday 16 May 2027: Eid al-Adha, stoning, sacrifice and Tawaf al-Ifadah
    • 11 to 13 Dhul Hijjah, 17 to 19 May 2027: the days of Tashriq in Mina
    • Expect a total trip of roughly 10 to 21 days, depending on your package

Why the date shifts every year

A lunar year counts about 354 days, eleven fewer than a solar year. Hajj therefore falls about eleven days earlier each year: around 24 to 29 May in 2026, and around 14 to 19 May in 2027. Final dates are only confirmed after the moon sighting, with a margin of one day.

    Planning towards May 2027

    • Now: check your passport (valid at least six months on arrival, preferably beyond 31 December 2027) and create an account at hajj.nusuk.sa
    • Autumn 2026: registration for 1448 is expected to open; the ministry published the preparation document on 29 May 2026
    • Early 2027: choose packages, top up the e-wallet and book
    • February to April 2027: vaccination consultation and travel advice at DKliniek
    • By 4 May 2027 at the latest: meningococcal ACWY administered, since the dose must be given ten days before arrival

Information about registration and packages is based on the official Nusuk Hajj platform of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Registration and payment take place there only; DKliniek provides the medical preparation.
