About Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio
This vaccine protects against three serious diseases: Diphtheria (a bacterial throat infection that can cause suffocation), Tetanus (lockjaw, caused by bacteria in the soil) and Polio (a viral disease that can cause paralysis).
How is it transmitted?
Diphtheria: droplet infection through coughing and sneezing. Tetanus: bacteria enter the body through wounds. Polio: fecal-oral route through contaminated water or food.

- Tetanus: severe muscle spasms, respiratory arrest, death
- Polio: permanent paralysis, breathing problems

How long is DTP vaccination valid?
A DTP vaccination protects for ten years. After that a booster is needed if you travel to a risk area again.
I do not know whether I had DTP. What now?
Without proof we assume an incomplete series. Our practitioner will decide on a suitable schedule with you.
Why is polio still included?
Polio still occurs in some countries, and a few countries even require recent proof of polio vaccination on departure.
