Preparing for Umrah: health and vaccinations

Your medical preparation is the part we help you with. Below is what is required, what we advise and when to arrange it.

    Short answer

For Umrah, Meningococcal ACWY is required, given at least ten days before arrival and recorded in your international vaccination certificate. Hepatitis A and a DTP booster are recommended. Bring your own medication in hand luggage, in its original packaging.

    Planning your vaccination

    • Meningococcal ACWY, required for Saudi Arabia
    • International vaccination certificate straight away
    • Evening and weekend appointments, every day 10:00 to 22:00
    Plan your Hajj vaccination

    Required and recommended

    • Meningococcal ACWY: required, at least ten days before arrival
    • Hepatitis A: recommended, because of food and drink en route
    • DTP: a booster if your last dose was more than ten years ago
    • Influenza vaccination: worth considering for older travellers and chronic conditions
    • Always bring your international vaccination certificate

    Staying healthy on site

    • Drink plenty; in the heat easily three to four litres a day
    • Seek shade and use an umbrella against the sun
    • Wash your hands often; respiratory infections spread quickly in crowds
    • Treat blisters and small foot wounds immediately
    • Bring a list of your medication and a short medical summary

    When to plan your appointment

Preferably plan your appointment four to six weeks before departure, so a vaccination series still fits. Leaving sooner? We can often still help at short notice, including evenings and weekends.

Information about registration and packages is based on the official Nusuk Hajj platform of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Registration and payment take place there only; DKliniek provides the medical preparation.
